Isla loves to paint the sky.  Some days Sky is wide, bright and blue. Other days she is dark, stormy and full of rumbling thunder. Isla delights in every change - capturing Sky’s many moods and colours in her artwork.

But the people in the town below don’t see things the same way. When clouds gather and rain begins to fall, they complain and grumble. Wanting to keep everyone happy, Sky decides she should always be cheerful and sunny.

At first this seems like a good idea. But pretending to feel only one way is exhausting - and soon the world below begins to suffer. The rain doesn’t fall when it should, the colours fade from Isla’s paintings, and Sky feels as if she might burst.

Can Isla help Sky understand that every feeling - bright or stormy - has its place?

Why you should treat-your-shelf:

  • A thoughtful story about emotions and self-expression
  • Encourages children to understand that all feelings are valid
  • Celebrates creativity, art and observation of the natural world
  • Beautifully illustrated with expressive, atmospheric artwork

ISLA AND THE SKY is a gentle, imaginative picture book about embracing emotions, finding beauty in change, and discovering that the world is richer when every colour - and every feeling - is allowed to shine.
